I'm not cheap, but the smiles are free. I work outside for two of my jobs. Folks go by all the time. I don't want to talk to everyone as the time rolls by and I'm on a paid clock. The smiles are free though, so when someone walks by I look up and smile. Sometimes "good morning" escapes my lips, then back to the tree I'm trimming or the rocks that I'm placing for a dry river bed in my clients yard.
I've tried not to do this, but there is something that draws me out when another human comes my way. Just a small connection that reminds me that we're all sharing this planet. That smile I give doesn't know who you voted for or how you treat your mother. It's free. It's shared. It's a opening.

@slmret - Good morning sunshine! Off to practice my smiles. HUGS!
Sometimes a smile makes all the difference in someone's day. And you have a lovely smile!
I always make an effort to smile at people. Sometimes it's so pathetic an effort that it frightens them, but when someone smiles in return I think we both feel a wee bit better.
Right on! :)
I like trying to make a connection too....it always feels good to get a hello and a smile back.
A smile can brighten a day and even change a mood from despondent to hopeful. Lots of power in those things. And as my mother is fond of saying, "It takes more muscles to frown than to smile"
Yeah. smiles rule!
I was in an international airport in India and walked up to the elevator to go up a floor. There was a very handsome man standing waiting for the elevator to come down. He looked at me kind of in a snobbish way, and tried to look beyond me. I looked at him, smiled and said, "good morning". His attitude changed instantly. He was very pleasant and we talked a few words and then we got up and he went one way and I the other. Later I heard that he was one of the popular stars of Indian cinema! I wonder if that's why he tried to put on airs when I walked towards the elevator, kind of telling me, to not approach him for an autograph or something. I didn't even know what his name was or who he was! But just one smile did it for both of us that day!
exactly, Lyne. me, too.
@ZSA_MD - I enjoyed reading your comment, Z. : )

@songoftheheart - Thank you. Smiles are a slice of life... shared.
@lanney - Effort! Yes, sometimes we do have to push ourselves to make that connection with others. I think it make a huge difference. Keep up the excellent smiling! :)
@LustYouForgot - Smiles are the bigger gesture in a world where people look down.
@everyday_yogi - Indeedy and more and more and more.
@WakeUpLaughing - When we connect with others in a positive way, we are part of that energy . I think that's a good thing.
@murisopsis - I have thought about that quote over the years. I am not aware of the muscles being flexed when I am in the process of a smile. That is a good indication of how natural it comes to me. Your mother was a wise woman. It is a gem!
@ZSA_MD - I have had similiar experiences in the service industry. It makes a difference. I'm sure of it Loved your comment! Brings the thought to light and that's what perspective is all about.
@plantinthewindow - Now why does that not surprise me. You are indeed a brother from another mother!

@icepearlz - Hey YOU! Positive keeps me from falling into the gutters of negative. I think I keep a step ahead. :)
This is good stuff! If all the people around you seem a bit cold, well then warm them up - that's my approach to life also.
Smile brings light in life . Words not needed.
Are those works your jobs, Lyne ? They look hard .
Love
Michel
And her is a smile
for you too, Lyne. You are one of the great humans on this planet. Hugs, Maarten
