Can't Get Out
We have a door that takes in the moisture of a rainy day. If we have several days in a row it swells and sticks and you have to put effort into getting it opened and closed. We have learned to give it a knock with the side of the fist in just the right spot and it gives way most of the time.
Now if you happen to be in a hurry, you might grab at the door handle first and the door will resist and pull you back. This door which I call the "venting door" has been called many names and has suffer a few kicks from younger muscles that it resisted to frustration. When I watched the door winning against Miss T's mini muscles, the dance she and the door did reminded me the of the elevator dancing that Mary Tyler Moore and Carol Burnett did in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Remember how the elevator didn't work unless you danced? Even when they were in a hurrry they had to do the dance.
These pictures might be small, but you get the point, right? If you haven't seen the movie, find it and enjoy the dance. I know the dance is viewable on YouTube.
Miss T's actions were sort of the anti dance. Stomp, kick, swing, beat, curse, pull, curse, open, slam shut! I have done the anti dance myself when I was in a hurry and the door said "no way kid, your not getting out without a dance." As soon as I let it hit my funny bone, my attitude shifted about the cursed swollen door and now I flat fist, step back, breathe deep and pull. Ah! Sweet opening success.
Life's door has some resistance at times. Beating the door won't get it open. A direct action with a positive attitude helps the job done.
Spring's warmth will fix the swollen door. Warmth from inside yourself will change almost any situation.
Got to go. The door and the day are calling to me. Enjoy your dance of life, and don't let the times when you have to add new things to the dance get you down.
(pats heart, and points to you)

Hope you manage to open the door!
@Zeal4living -
Great analogy.
Do you think you could perhaps need a dehumidifier to make the door not swell up with moisture? Just wondering.
@ZSA_MD - I'm sure that would be a good idea. My friend has a boat dehumidifier in her storage unit that works really well. I'll have to order one for next season.
I'll have to remember this next time I forget the bedroom doorknob is broken and close myself in. Shouting doesn't usually get me any help; maybe if I dance it will shake the ceiling and somebody will come upstairs and let me out.
It must be mind over matter. Or mind over door, I guess.
Well said.
The door to my life sometimes takes a good kick but is always worth the effort of opening it and walking through into the land of the living, and out of the darkness of my mind<:)
@Iamsurrounded - Mind over door for sure! Hugs to you!
@Grannys_Place - Land of the living sounds good to me, Ruth. Let's go!
@saintvi - I'm laughing! We have a garage door that the door handle has broken and I got locked in there with no cell phone to call for help. The back of the garage is full so I decided not to climb to the back. I found a screwdriver and set myself free, The family asked, Where have you been? No one came looking. Another time I was at the winery for a wedding event and I went down to production to clean up after a barrel tasting before the wedding started. I didn't realize that I needed to prop the door and it closed with me locked in and no one in the building. That time I did have my cell phone and I had to call the tasting room to send someone to let me out. The tasting room, loaded with people clapped when I showed up. I bowed and did a little twril. Always happy to amuse. I told them it was a good thing they got me out or the barrels might have been a bit empty when they found me with a smile on my face passed out on the floor.
Wonderful parable! I'm going to be dancing all day tomorrow and probably into the work week!! Thanks!
@murisopsis - (dances to the laptop to respond) Hey Val! You've got it! Go make the flow go your way.
You have a beautiful outlook on what's needed to dance through life.
@songoftheheart - Thank you. I'm just sharing the journey and Xanga has such a kind community that embraces my thoughts and hopes that we can push through and see a better day before us.

@HisDownAzzChick - Hope you have a good book in there.
and now i'm imagining a house that needs different things done, to get different things to work. like, in the kitchen, to open the frig, 'please, sir, can i have some more?' or 'open, sesame!' or, looking in bathroom mirror, singing 'I can see clearly now, the rain is gone' ;) like that. the dance of life, something our Lynn is so very good at. <3
I'm glad the door will open up in the spring
! Several years ago, new at my job, and new at working from home, I walked out the front door of my house to pick up the morning paper (fortunately phone in hand, though I have no idea why), when the door latch broke and I had no way to get back in till the locksmith arrived! Off in the rain today to look at plumbing fixtures!
@Jaynebug - no just a good pair of lungs:)
@Bels_Kaylar -
My middle son sings answers to me all the time, and yes, the house is a puzzle that needs the spaces filled with dancing humor.(small house, 4 peoplenow that College Dude is out)
@slmret - Is it raining down there? Lucky you had the phone. Funny how that goes and you feel better somehow as it's just gotten easier even though its a bit of a bummer.
@Jaynebug - Yes, it's raining off and on -- this afternoon nicer, but it's chilly again. There was another -- I locked the door to the garage one night, then remembered I'd left something in the car -- the garage door closed itself behind me, and I had to call the locksmith. Luckily a neighbor was on his way to pick up something at the grocery store, and let me use his cell phone!
@slmret -
Good neighbor! Mine would tell me to stay off their property. They're the ones who had the rooster.
My neighbor on the other side is a gem. Balance, eh?
Dancing to open the door? Yeah! Sesame open!!! hehe ...
@SherryAngeLMysteriez - :) Enjoy the" flow of your go" Yes. Dance!
