Hmmm mm 1911
I was waiting for my to go order of lunch and there on the wall was words of wisdom. They were from The Herald Recorder, Vol XXIV no 38 -July 1,1911.
The article was about the town incorporating and there had been heated discussions regarding the towns people coming to an agreement.
How's this for an old thought," There are so many things to be done, and the pull-together spirit is needed to do them."
Hmmm mm. Old thought?
Is there any pull-together spirit left?

I think so but there is this ebb and flow to perceptions out there- sometimes it's guard yourself, sometimes it nuture the community.
I see it a lot in the military community. The spouses are really there for each other when their husbands are deployed. Commanders often step up along side their men when someone needs it. My husband had to make a choice between a job that would boost his career or a job that would support his unit in a time of need. He chose the latter. I'm always getting emails about this or that service available to us because we need that type of support while our nation is at war.
I have a girlfriend whose husband is a business man. He's gone more than my husband is. She doesn't have a tenth of the support available to me...because the military community knows how to pull together. I wish everyone had this. It must be hard for many in this economy, and their hardships are tough too.
Sure! My friends and I get beer for each other all the time.
I think so. Peace
Hope the bipartisanship continues for a little while longer. (I can always hope)
I think so too mornin glorie -
I think so. yes.
I think looking forward it will have to be so out of necessity.
I think in the general public there is "pull together". But in the political arena and in the individuals that have an idealogical axe to grind, there is none at all. Again it will be up to the middle American working class, to pull it together, ignoring the negative fringes.
I'm a firm believer in the pull-together spirit!
Together we'll stand
Divided we'll fall
Come on now people
Let's get on the ball
And work together
Come on, come on
Let's work together
Because together we will stand
Every boy, every girl and man
People, when things go wrong
As they sometimes will
And the road you travel
It stays all uphill
Let's work together
Come on, come on
Let's work together
You know together we will stand
Every boy, girl, woman and man
Oh well now, two or three minutes
Two or three hours
What does it matter now
In this life of ours
Let's work together
Come on, come on
Let's work together
Because together we will stand
Every boy, every woman and man
Ahhh, come on now...
Ahhh, come on, let's work together...
Well now, make someone happy
Make someone smile
Let's all work together
And make life worthwhile
Let's work together
Come on, come on
Let's work together
Because together we will stand
Every boy, girl, woman and man
Oh well now, come on you people
Walk hand in hand
Let's make this world of ours
A good place to stand
And work together
Come on, come on
Let's work together
Because together we will stand
Every boy, girl, woman and man
Well now together we will stand
Every boy, girl, woman and man
@buddly47 - Love that song! Now I'm singing it Buddlyman! "Come on come on lets work together! Oh comeon work together now! Make someone happy make someone smile. We got to stand together to make this world a good place to live in." Thank you and Canned Heat!
@DistantShipSmoke - Politicians need to step outside their bubble and get the job done together. I know you're right though. It will be people like us who make the difference. We always have and always will..come together. Looking forward to critical mass in community.
@slinky - We will surrender to the need of a community pull together spirit in pockets all over the world, then slowly spread out. I like the image of it growing. I'll hold that thought. (pats heart and points to you.)
@starmanjones - A fine line.
@BigToePeople - I hear what your saying. One person gets something going, but if they step out of the picture, who is to take fill that space and run with it? Sure wish I had the answers...guess I just keep making good things happen in my daily connections with people and know that one by one we all can move toward something positive.
I think it all comes down to 'community' and that feeling of family that carries over from that. One of my greatest frustrations today is that universities and secondary schools feel a need to mandate volunteerism when they might do better at teaching cooperation in living.
@History_Nut - I hear you. We use to have a certain amount of hours we had to give to my kids school. I thought it was rediculous until they discontinued it and the volunteering wnet down. I was still volunteering so I never thought about the fact that some people only do what they have to do not what's right to do. It's a sad situation.
Hi, thank you my friend, for the wedding congrats. Very kind
of you.
I don't get into politics, much. But I think
Congress, the House, and all the gov't......officials need a swift kick
in the you know where. I don't think they pull together for anything,
but themselves.
As for others, I think, they are all following the wrong way......I may
be a pessimist but I don't see much giving anymore.
Take care, Riding_Hood
@Riding_Hood -
I hiope . Our western countries need it .
Love
Michel
I think so~ I hope so.
@BigToePeople - I love your comment. I hope your husband comes home and never has to go back to ANY front anymore.
I watched a clip this evening on the news where toys were distributed in Norfolk VA to all the army/navy kids whose parent is in Iraq and/ or Afghanistan. One particular family I saw, a father with three boys, 13, 9 and 5 years old, while the mother is away on the front. The oldest boy cried such hot tears of anguish, missing his mother, and I felt like my heart was tearing apart. I pray that mother returns home to her children very soon, so the boys never have to feel that gnawing emptiness in her heart.... regardless of how much support they get from all the other families.
Blessings.
@ZSA_MD - Thanks so much for your support and encouragement. My husband is actually home these days...his unit needed someone to cover things at home while they were gone. Not a great career move, but they needed him and he felt that was the most important job to do his boss's work while his boss was overseas. Of course, I'm happy he's safe. He won't have to deploy for a little while, but it is inevitable. It's beautiful how supportive the military community is to one another and how nobly they serve. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people accuse military leaders of being warmongers, but the truth of the matter is that they are willing to fight if they must but don't want to send their men into danger. What they really enjoy is a humanitarian mission. You should have seen how thrilled my husband was to fly missions to help in tsunami relief when we were dating in 2005. When he's done with the Air Force, he wants to work for a world aid organization. Sorry, didn't mean to ramble. It's just nice to receive encouragement. Thanks for your kindness, and blessings to you as well.
Yes there is pull together spirit left. I live in a large apt complex and we all look out for one another. We all watch the children when they are out playing & make up anyone we do not know is safe and supposed to be there. We have pot lucks at the end of each month to make sure every one has something to eat the last week of the month when money is the tightest. If someone new move sin and needs furniture we all get together and get enough for them to have something to set on, sleep on and cook in. That is why we stay in this old apt complex. It is people working together to survive despite the govt. cuts.
@Grannys_Place - What a fine place indeed!
